Introduction
Information Systems Discipline in the Context of Computing and Information Science has played a key role in the promotion of the vision for the Knowledge Society and has contributed significantly to economic development, business performance and societal evolution.
The Emerging Topics and Technologies in Information Systems, is an edited book that challenges the traditional perceptions for Information Systems. It aims to promote leading edge research in Emerging Technologies and Topics of Information Systems and to serve as a reference edition for the research domain and the industry. With a focus on a balanced discussion of technological and business issues, the book series endeavors to develop bridges between the IT industry, IT practitioners and Academia towards a holistic discussion on the adoption of Emerging technologies and New Topics of Information Systems to the business world and society. This approach fills in a critical gap traditionally found in formalistic discussions for the role of emerging technologies, and responds to the need of society for the exploitation of emerging IT and IS innovations.
Nowadays Information Systems discipline faces new challenges. New emerging technologies, as well as matured approaches for the social, technical and developmental role of IS, provide a new context for the evolution of the discipline for the next years. In the same run, Academia and Industry are seeking for convergence in the development and exploitation of sound propositions in terms of Theory, Applications and Technologies. As in every discipline formal, education is having a key role of discourse. In this edition we have a clear strategy. We want to develop relevant knowledge and to promote fresh ideas for a new emerging paradigm for IS education. The edited book is organized around three general pillars:
- New Research Agenda of Information Systems and Integration with the Classical IS Curriculum
- Emerging Topics and Technologies for Information Systems
- The New Teaching Paradigm and Teaching Case Studies
Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Push/pull technologies
- Adaptive and personalized technologies
- Free and open source software
- Ubiquitous and pervasive technologies
- Content/knowledge management systems
- Grid technologies
- RFID
- Supply chain management applications of IS
- ERPs/EAI
- Enterprise Information Systems
- Outsourcing
- The IS artifact
- IT that Matters
