Security, Reliability and Availability of IT systems and
infrastructures have for over two decades been core research areas in
the field of IT Security. Recent strategic research foci, especially
in the European Union, have renewed the interest in the area and are
setting the stage for very interesting and challenging developments,
in areas ranging from the use of IT for increasing security in
general, to the security of critical IT infrastructures and legal,
economic and social issues.
The European Union and the Austrian Governmental Bodies are very keen
to bridge the gap between the scientific work and applications in
this area - especially in the areas of e-Government.
We are very pleased therefore to have the ARES conference series
organised in cooperation with ENISA (The European Network and
Information Security Agency). ENISA supports the idea of this
conference due to the urgent need of research and dissemination of
new techniques in these areas.
The 1st International Conference on Availability, Reliability and
Security conference (ARES 2006) has been successfully organized in
Vienna, AUSTRIA from April 20 to April 22, 2006 by the Technical
University of Vienna in cooperation with the European Network and
Security Agency (ENISA). We have attracted 250 participants for this
conference with its 3 keynotes speakers and its 8 workshops held in
conjunction with.
In continuation of the successful 1st ARES conference, The Second
International Conference on Availability, Reliability and Security
("ARES 2007 - The International Security and Dependability
Conference") bring together researchers and practitioners in the area
of IT-Security and Dependability.
ARES 2007 highlights the various aspects of security - with special
focus on secure internet solutions, trusted computing, digital
forensics, privacy and organizational security issues. It aims at a
full and detailed discussion of the research issues of security as an
integrative concept that covers amongst others availability, safety,
confidentiality, integrity, maintainability and security in the
different fields of applications.
ARES 2007 (together with CISIS) will have over 195 paper presentations
including a symposium, and 7 workshops:
- Workshop “Dependability Aspects on Data Warehousing and Mining applications” (DAWAM 2007).
- Workshop “Dependability and Security in e-Government” (DeSeGov 2007)
- Workshop “Foundations of Fault-tolerant Distributed Computing” (FOFDC 2007)
- Workshop "Secure Software Engineering" (SecSE 2007)
- Workshop “Modeling, Designing, and Testing Correct, Secure, and Dependable Event-Based System” (EBITS 2007).
- Workshop “Advances in Information Security” (WAIS 2007)
- Workshop: Security in E-Learning (SEL 2007).
