PRESS RELEASE

1st World Summit on the Knowledge Society Organized by the OPEN RESEARCH SOCIETY,
N.G.O. at The American College of Greece, Sept. 24-26, 2008
The Open Reasearch Society and The American College of Greece organize the 1st World
Summit on the Knowledge Society - a three day conference that will take place September
24-26 at the Aghia Paraskevi Campus of The American College of Greece (6 Gravias Street,
Aghia Paraskevi).

The Summit will cover five main tracks:
1. Social & Humanistic Computing for the Knowledge Society - Emerging Technologies for
the Society and the Humanity

2. Knowledge, Learning, Education, Learning Technologies and E-learning for the
Knowledge Society

3. Information Technologies - Knowledge Management Systems -
E-business & Enterprise Information Systems for the Knowledge Society

4. Culture & Cultural Heritage - Technology for Culture Management - Management of
Tourism and Entertainment - Tourism Networks in the Knowledge Society

5. Government and Democracy in the Knowledge Society

The Summit will bring together academics, people from industry, policy makers, politicians,
government officials, and active citizens to look at the impact of information technology,
and the knowledge-based era it is creating, on key facets of today’s world: the state,
business, society and culture.

Among the many prominent speakers will be:
Dr. John Carroll, who is Edward M. Frymoyer Professor of Information Sciences and
Technology at Pennsylvania State University
Dr. Robert Tennyson of the University of Minnesota, College of Education and Human
Development, and
Dr. Ambjorn Naeve, Director of the Knowledge Management Research Group at the Royal
Institute of Technology.

Approximately 180 scientific papers by more than 430 authors from more than 40 countries
will be presented in the Summit’s various forums.
