4th Hellenic Data Management Symposium - HDMS 2005
«Ioannis Drakopoulos» Amphitheatre, Central Building University of Athens
Panepistimiou, 30 Athens, 25-26 August 2005

Databases and data management technology in general represent one of the main driving forces
behind the rapid growth of informatics and its penetration into our every day lives. The most
recent advances in the area are discussed every year within a large number of international
and regional conferences, symposia, and workshops around the world. After several decades of
Greek researchers' successful contributions to the field, the time is ripe for the Hellenic
community to establish its own national meeting. The 1st Hellenic Data Management Symposium
(HDMS) held in Athens in July 2002 gave the first samples of a forum for exchanging and
discussing research results and ideas but also for investigating ways to transfer technology
from researchers to the Hellenic industry as well as the public sector. Following, the HDMS's
tradition was successfully met by the 2nd and 3rd meeting held on the 4th?5th of September
2003 and on the 28th?29th of June 2004 in Athens respectively, where lively participations
increased in numbers. To develop further the forum's perspectives the 4th HDMS is planned to
take place in Athens in the 25th -26th of August 2005.
The program of HDMS 2005 will consist of full or short length research and application paper
presentations, hosted talks, tutorials, panels, and demonstrations of commercial products and
research prototypes. It will also offer to graduate students, via the PhD forum, the
opportunity to present their work in progress and receive feedback. Authors are invited to
submit papers and proposals for the program on any topic related to Data Management,
including but not limited to the following:
*Advanced Data Models and Query Languages
*Sensor Networks and Embedded Databases
*Query Processing and Optimization
*Mobile Computing and Databases
*Constraint and Rule Management
*Peer-to-Peer Computing and Databases
*Incomplete and Uncertain Information
*Approximate and Personalized Queries
*Data Warehouses and OLAP
*Data Replication and Caching
*Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery
*Data Translation and Migration
*Workflow Management Systems
*Data Integration and View Management
*Knowledge Bases Management Systems
*Textual and Audiovisual Databases
*Geographic Information Systems
*Scientific and Statistical Databases
*Object-Relational Database Systems
*Spatial and Temporal Databases
*Parallel and Distributed Databases
*Web Data Management and Electronic Services
*Real-Time Database Systems
*User Interfaces and Data Visualization
The key criterion in judging submissions will be technical importance and depth,
where novelty is secondary.

the aforementioned format include the speakers, panellists, and the intended audience
whenever appropriate. PhD-work proposals should not exceed four (4) pages, and should
