MDABIZ 2008

1st International Workshop on Business Support for MDA

co-located with
TOOLS EUROPE 2008

ETH Zurich, Switzerland 30 June - 4 July 2008

Call for papers:

In theory, the Model Driven Architecture (MDA) process covers the
Computation Independent Model (CIM), Platform Independent Model (PIM),
and Platform Specific Model (PSM), but most research and end to end
tool support is to be found at the PIM and PSM levels.

Currently, work at the CIM level focuses on Business Process Modelling
notations, but many of these can still seem inaccessible to business
users, thus pointing the way to less formal models, and, arguably, the
need for a pre-CIM level. This workshop aims to examine current
research and practice at the pre-CIM and CIM levels and invites
discussion on how MDA can better support business; it will also
consider work in transformations from pre-CIM to CIM and CIM to
PIM. To this end, papers discussing recent research results and
industrial practice will be encouraged.

The motivation behind the workshop is that the Tools series of
conferences is focussed on much that is at the PIM and PSM level of
the MDA. Now that understanding at these levels is growing, to realise
the full potential of MDA we need to address 'upstream' issues in
order to improve the accessibility to a wider range of (possibly
non-IT) stakeholders. Therefore, this workshop would like to encourage
discussion and support for the business and system analyst from
attendees at the conference.

Contributions with a strong theoretical and technical background, as
well as contributions focusing on domain knowledge and practical
industrial experience, are welcome. Particularly welcome are
contributions from the business, healthcare and manufacturing
industrial domains. However, this will not exclude experience reports
from any domain.

Possible topics include (but are not limited to) the areas listed below:

Academic authors are invited to submit full papers of up to 12 pages
describing the results of their research, or of their innovative
practical applications relevant to the workshop topics, not having
been submitted or published elsewhere.

Industrial authors are invited to submit up to 4 pages of report
describingtheir experience of modelling, tools and notations at the
pre-CIM and CIM levels.

Papers must be written in English and should be submitted in the
format of the main Tools-Europe 2008 conference which is available
here: http://tools.ethz.ch/callforpapers.html. Papers should be
submitted by email to sjeary@bournemouth.ac.uk.

Important dates:
