Cases on Technology Innovation: Entrepreneurial Successes and Pitfalls, A book edited by Dr. S. Ann Becker and Dr. Robert Niebuhr, Florida Institute of Technology.

Introduction
Entrepreneurship, in this book, focuses on technology innovation of services and products to meet the virtual demands of an international marketplace. Entrepreneurship is explored from the perspective of past, current, and emerging technologies and the globalization of such technologies. Lessons learned regarding both successful and unsuccessful ventures are considered foundational to technology innovation. As such, they will be presented from various perspectives emphasizing economic, financial, cultural, political, and social challenges facing world markets.

The Overall Objective of the Book
Innovations in technology during the past twenty years offer great insight into entrepreneurial success and pitfalls. Much of technology innovation is the result of pioneers with the unique vision of creating wealth, introducing new products or services, and perhaps becoming famous. These pioneers, referred to as entrepreneurs, are the foundation upon which technological advancements are made.

The objectives of this book include:

  • Capture past, current, and future innovations through entrepreneurship experiences, accomplishments, and lessons learned.
  • Understand characteristics of entrepreneurship in the innovation of technology.
  • Identify successful approaches in technology transfer starting from conceptualization to commercialization.
  • Explore cultural, political, and social perspectives on entrepreneurship and technology innovation.
  • Discuss the role of venture capital, organizational structure, and society on technology innovation and commercialization.

The Target Audience

  • Professionals and researchers in the areas of: technology, entrepreneurship, international business, information systems, management, computer science, engineering, sociology, and education, among others.
  • Academic programs, inclusive of undergraduate and graduate degrees, certificate programs and individual courses, in the areas of technology innovation, control and innovation, internationalization, entrepreneurship, technology transfer and commercialization. Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary academic programs building pathways among computing, engineering, business, and other science areas.
  • Business executives, management, and technical staff focused on building expertise, innovating new products and services, entering new markets, and understanding social, cultural, and political challenges.

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before November 15, 2008, a 2-5 page manuscript proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of the proposed case. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by December 15, 2008 about the status of their proposals and sent case organizational guidelines. Full cases are expected to be submitted by March 31, 2008. All submitted cases will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc.), publisher of the "Information Science Reference" (formerly Idea Group Reference) and "Medical Information Science Reference" imprints.
