INTRODUCTION
Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) has emerged as a new computing paradigm for designing, building and using software applications to support business processes in heterogeneous, distributed and continuously changing environments. The architectural foundation for SOC is provided by the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), which states that applications expose their functionality as services in a uniform and technology-independent way such that they can be discovered and invoked over the network. Claimed benefits of SOC include cheaper and faster development of business applications through repeated aggregation of services, better reuse of software artifacts and legacy applications through service wrappings, and easier adaptation to changes in the business environment through replacement and reconfiguration of services.

In order to realize these benefits routinely with SOC, for realistic business settings with complex IT environments, many challenges still need to be addressed. For example, supporting business processes and collaborations in an open service-oriented world requires a better understanding of integration problems along different dimensions. First of all, alignment between business demands and application functions has to be achieved. This requirement for vertical integration should drive the aggregation of services, from basic IT services to rich business services, to achieve the desired or given business processes. Secondly, horizontal integration has to be considered if business collaborations span multiple organizations. In such cases, interoperability between the services has to be ensured at different levels (syntactic, semantic and pragmatic) and on different aspects (information and behavior). Thirdly, we have to assume that business demands as well as IT capabilities w!
ill change over time. This evolution will impact existing solutions, and thus require the adaptation, management and maintenance (e.g., versioning, replacing, updating) of services and service compositions. Moreover, changes that occur at one level or on one aspect have to be propagated to other levels and aspects in order to keep the consistency of the integration solution. And finally, all of the above challenges not only exist at design-time, but at run-time as well. Service composition may be on-demand, driven by an end-user service creation activity, and running instances of composite services are subject to changes concerning, for instance, the availability of resources. This implies that service level agreements and associated quality-of-service need to be negotiated, monitored, and controlled in multi-party and heterogeneous environments.

During the last 30 years, human-centered perceptual understanding tasks such as face/body detection/ tracking, facial characteristic analysis (e.g., age, gender, ethnicity, and expression), face/gait based human identification, and from understanding simple hand gesture to complex human body language, activity and behaviour, have attracted researchers from both computational and psychological communities. To be able to build tractable models has significant scientific and practical values. For example, human-computer interaction, video indexing, visual surveillance, and Internet vision are active application areas. To that end, researchers have made substantial progress. However, significant challenges still remain.

This one-day workshop (AMFG2010) will provide a focused international forum to bring together researchers and research groups to review the status of recognition, analysis and modeling of face, gesture, and body, to discuss the challenges that we are facing, and to explore future directions. A particular interest and focus of this workshop will be placed upon large-scale data from real-world environments. The workshop will consist of two to three invited talks together with peer-reviewed regular papers (oral and poster). Original high-quality papers are solicited on a wide range of topics including:
? Face and body language recognition in real-world environments with unknown/changing background, e.g., Internet image search, or Facebook, or crowded public spaces.
? Soft biometrics and profiling: age, gender, and ethnicity classification by facial and/or body descriptions.
? Novel mathematical modelling and algorithms, sensors and modalities for face & body gesture/action representation, analysis and recognition.
? Novel applications based on robust detection, tracking and recognition of face, body and action.
? Psychological studies that can assist in understanding computational modelling and building better automated computer vision systems.
? Motion analysis, tracking and extraction of face and body models from image sequences captured by a single or multiple cameras from either a fixed or mobile platform.

Recent advances in computing, networking, and ICT devices such as laptops, iPods, personal digital assistants (PDA), cellular phones and iPhones have resulted in the development of intelligent context aware multimedia applications. The context aware technologies such as pervasive and ubiquitous computing are creating a revolution in multimedia applications which has a significant impact across consumers, enterprises, healthcare, culture, agriculture, and educational domains. However several challenges still remain in the context of multimedia retrieval such as indexing, querying, searching, retrieving, streaming, personalizing and mining multimedia data.

The main aim of this special issue is to bring out a collection of efficient techniques and applications in the area of context aware multimedia computing. Specifically the special issue will address new methods and techniques for multimedia retrieval that are scalable and context aware. It will also offer efficient ideas and methods to deliver and distribute multimedia content and services over wired and wireless networks at large scale, considering protocols, standards and security issues. Finally, we are also interested to report novel applications that exploit unique advantages which are offered by context aware multimedia computing, including telemedicine, home entertainment, games, surveillance, e-health and e-culture.

Function and functionality play a central role not only in modern science but also in our extra-scientific understanding of the world.
Unfortunately, the term 'function' is hereby used with a variety of meanings and is associated with a variety of views as to what functions are.

This special issue is devoted to the foundation, the comparison and the application of functional theories in all areas, with particular attention to the biological and engineering domains.
The goal is to publish state-of-the-art theoretical and technical contributions related to the description, characterization, and application of functions. We especially welcome contributions in which the theories are presented and motivated with an eye on the underlying ontological aspects and an introduction to their formalization.

Contributions may include analyses of the different notions of function that have proven useful in science, proposals towards development of a unifying framework, or criticisms of existing frameworks. The goal is to provide materials for the creation of an ontological treatment of functions and functioning that will:

1) identify and describe functions in a consistent and comprehensive way;
2) list the arguments that lead to a preference of one notion of function over others;
3) make clear the basic assumptions and principles of classification that motivate a given notion of function;

Workshop Aims and Objectives

Building on the successes of the first three CSWIM meetings (Shanghai, 2007; Kunming, 2008; Guangzhou, 2009), CSWIM 2010 will take place in Wuhan, China. It will be hosted by School of Management, Huazhong University of Science & Technology, which is a top university in China.

Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province and is recognized as the political, economic, financial, cultural, educational and transportation center of central China. It lies at the east of Jianghan Plain, and the intersection of the middle reaches of the Yangtze and Han River. Arising out of the conglomeration of three boroughs, Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang, Wuhan is known as the "thoroughfare of nine provinces".

The purpose of the CSWIM is to create a bridge to promote lively exchanges between scholars in China and other countries in the area of information systems and management. In particular, CSWIM focuses on creating a unique experience for IS researchers around the world who would like to communicate and collaborate with China-based scholars, and to study how information systems and technologies affect individuals, businesses, organizations, and societies. In the past three years, about 100 participants attended each workshop, representing most of the top IS programs in North America, China, and Asia.

We invite submissions of original research papers addressing issues concerning the theory, design, development, evaluation, and application of information systems and management. As a research workshop, we encourage submissions of research-in-progress that are innovative and thought-provoking. Research articles particularly sought after are those driven by business problems and validated with proper research methodologies. Research topics include, but are not limited to:

Very important to the journal is its emphasis on quality and relevance. Furthermore, the journal will disseminate this knowledge to researchers, practitioners, academicians, and educators all over the world on a timely basis. The teaching of databases is central to all Computing Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems and Information Technology courses. For the previous seven years, TLAD workshops have brought together those teaching database modules in order to share good learning, teaching and assessment practice and to explore which methods are appropriate to database modules.

The eighth workshop will be held on the day before the British National Conference on Databases at the University of Abertay in Dundee and this year the workshop will concentrate on novel teaching and assessment approaches for database and database related modules, as well as covering other issues related to the teaching, learning and assessment of databases. It is intended that the workshop will include plenty of time for discussion this year, and so contributions are sought particularly in the areas of (but not restricted to):

- novel teaching areas and their relationship to databases;
- databases and enterprise level computing;

SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) provide a key technology for monitoring and surveillance, which is being more and more applied in business, industry and research. WSNs can collect detailed information about objects or environmental conditions by coordinating fine-grained sensor readings from a large number of independent nodes. However, querying data collected by and stored within a WSN is a challenging problem. In particular, due to very limited resources (energy, wireless network bandwidth, etc.), it is not a practical option to apply simple strategies like forwarding any sensor value directly to a more powerful base-station that does the query processing.

In this context, the special issue of the Distributed and Parallel Databases Journal is about query processing in sensor networks. Although this problem has received considerable attention in the last years both from industry and research teams, there are still many issues that need to be solved before WSN can be used off-the-shelf. Such issues include a declarative query language that supports a trade-off between energy consumption and result quality while considering unreliable data sources, in-network optimization of multiple parallel queries without relying on the state of all sensor nodes, or query processing across multiple heterogeneous sensor networks that are connected over the Internet. We seek submissions of papers dealing with all aspects of query processing in sensor networks, including (but not limited to):

XML has gained lot of attention from database and Web researchers who are actively working in one or more of the emerging XML areas. XML data are self-describing, and provide a platform independent means to describe data and therefore, can transport data from one platform to another. XML documents can be mapped to one more of the existing data models such as relational and object-relational, and XML views can be produced dynamically from the pre-existing data models. XML change management is another important area that has attracted attention in the context of web warehouse. Due to several requests we extend the submission deadline to February 8, 2010.

Pervasive computing technologies such as a variety of ever-smaller mobile devices, public digital displays, and location sensing and tracking tools are rapidly adopted by the advertising and retail industries. Adoption is driven by the comprehensive business models facilitated by these technologies, a fact that leads us to believe that advertising and shopping could well be amongst the most important deployment domains for pervasive technologies. Furthermore, the two industries are intimately linked: advertising that is the communication of sponsored messages to inform, convince, and persuade to buy leads to shopping, that is the examination and purchasing of goods.

However, the opportunities, benefits and drawbacks of pervasive technologies in these domains only now are beginning to be understood. Moreover the current trend whereby power is shifting towards consumers, makes specific aspects of advertising and shopping such as brand experience, word of mouth, and audience measurement gain importance, and provides opportunities for pervasive technologies to generate some true benefit for consumers.

We believe that our research community has a responsibility to contribute towards the improved understanding of the implications of this change and whenever possible to play a leading role in shaping it in a positive and meaningful way. To this end, this workshop looks at the future of advertising and shopping from the perspective of pervasive computing. It aims to provide a foundational structure for the field and will attempt to sketch a roadmap for further research and deployment challenges in this domain.

We invite papers that address any relevant issues in the fields of pervasive advertising and shopping.
In addition to online proceedings, selected workshop papers will be considered for publication in a special issue of Personal and Ubiquitous Computing.

PAPER SUBMISSION AND PARTICIPATION

We ask potential attendees to submit up to 10-page position papers describing how their research relates to the particular focus on the workshop. Position papers should also include description of ongoing research, results obtained, experience gathered, new ideas, future projects or questions on topics related to pervasive advertising and shopping. Each participant is also asked to provide a short paragraph (up to 200 words) on their vision of advertising and shopping in 25 years from now. All submissions will be peer-reviewed.

SERVICE-ORIENTED ARCHITECTURE TESTING

Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a way of designing, developing, deploying, and managing enterprise systems where business needs and technical solutions are closely aligned. There are serious challenges related to the testing of SOA-based systems that must be addressed before the SOA paradigm will enjoy broad-based success - particularly in secure, mission-critical settings. The nature of SOA-based applications calls for testing tools and techniques that support the unique characteristics of SOA, including governance, underlying technologies (e.g., Web services), and quality attributes such as security.

The SOAT 2010 workshop is the second of a series of events exploring issues related to the testing of SOA-based applications. The first SOAT workshop took place in conjunction with ICSM 2009 in Edmonton. The focus of the SOAT 2010 workshop with ICST in Paris will be on security testing for SOA-based systems.

SOAT 2010 is a full-day workshop that will focus on SOA testing for security purposes from three perspectives: research, industry, and education. The overall goal of the workshop is to continue to develop an emerging research agenda for SOA testing. The workshop will be structured around a handful of invited presentations from recognized experts in the field, refereed papers from the community, and a panel session involving a selected set of opinion makers from academia, government, and industry.

SCOPE AND TOPICS

Visual computing involves theory, methods and application of enhancing the visual space, along with human interaction, within the field of computing. One may visualize unstructured data, simple information structures, and more complicated structures such as automata, programs, and databases. Moreover, visual computing is a field that involves the representation or modeling of artifacts and their behaviors or executions. Thus, it is possible to visualize heaps, their execution or entire programs in which the heap plays an algorithmic role. The ways in which the human interacts with the heap through pure visualization, touch, or sound becomes a relevant issue. The concept of transformation is integral to visual computing, where it is often convenient to transform one type of object into another, sometimes for a specific group or individual.

Aspects of visual computing are multi-facetted in goals that are to be achieved during information or language design. The following represents a short list of qualities that are of importance to the study within visual computing: efficiency, aesthetics, pleasure, emotion, engagement, immersion, collaboration, and culture. Aspects of art, engineering, and science play key roles where certain practitioners focus on design and engineering of visual interactions whereas others analyze and study these interactions (i.e., science).

The International Workshop on Visual Languages and Computing will explore these issues, and will be held in conjunction with the 2010 International Conference of Distributed Multimedia Systems (http://www.ksi.edu/seke/dms10.html). Papers on all aspects and approaches to visual languages and computing are solicited, including interactive visual computing, computer-empowered visual computing, human-empowered visual computing, transformation algorithms for visual computing, and visual languages for visual computing.

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS
Submissions that address research and development on the above and other related topics are strongly encouraged. All the submitted papers will be reviewed by the international Program Committee members. Accepted papers will be published in the Proceedings of DMS 2010. A selection of the best papers will be invited for subsequent publication in a special issue of the Journal of Visual Languages and Computing. New business processes are created and existing ones evolve following different kinds of drivers or motivations. Business process life-cycle can be roughly seen as a succession of improvement cycles which include the design, deployment and operation-evaluation phases.

This special issue will be devoted to the drivers of these phases and to their transitions, as well as how they can be accommodated into a broader and dynamic view of the business process life-cycle. The research question will be what "drives" the wheel (the business process life cycle) when it turns to reach a moving business target with regard to market changes and continuous improvement requirements.

The theme for DMS2010 is Globalization and Personalization. Both research and case study papers or demonstrators describing results in research area as well as industrial development cases and experiences are solicited. Special issue of Journals
The DMS conference is closely coordinated with the International Journal of Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering, the Journal of Visual Languages and Computing and the International Journal of Distance Education Technologies. Usually the best ranked papers from the conference, after rigorous reviews, extensive revisions and further enhancements, will appear in one or more special issues of the above journals. Papers suggested for the special issue(s) will be reviewed by external reviewers following the standard procedure of review stipulated by the respective journal.

Papers must be written in English. Parallelizability as an Architectural Software System Aspect.

OBJECTIVE

Computing hardware is increasingly becoming a multi-core, multi-processor execution environment, but most software is developed according to serial computer programming paradigms. There is a pressing need for software development paradigms that hide the complexity of parallelism on the programming level. In addition to newly developed code targeting parallel computing platforms, a growing amount of legacy serial code needs to be prepared for parallelism as well. Most developers have experience in serial programming and prefer to use serial programming paradigms (one reason being that parallel programming is substantially more complicated to master than serial programming). Hiding parallelism on the programming level would allow developers to unlock the potential of today's parallel computing platforms, but without having to become parallel programmers.

Parallel computing, from a software engineering point of view, has often a strong focus on the programming level - the programmer uses compiler directives to manually identify pieces of code that are suitable for parallel execution. This workshop aims to promote ideas that address parallel computing as a software system aspect on the architectural level rather than as a code construct on the programming level. Submitted papers should set forth novel ideas that address parallelism from a holistic, architectural perspective and give rise to discussion in the context of the workshop theme.

The APSS workshop provides a forum for all topics related to parallel software system development from an architectural perspective. Researchers and practitioners alike are invited to present and discuss novel concepts, recent results (e.g., proof-of-concept examples in Google Go or Erlang), problems, approaches and methodologies, tools and techniques or any bold idea that may help in defining parallelizability as an architectural aspect in software system engineering. The workshop will have an open and informal character to encourage interaction, discussions and feedback.

The ICIS 2010 Conference Committee and the Association for Information Systems are pleased to invite scholars to participate in the Thirty-first annual International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS 2010) to be held in Saint Louis, Missouri from December 12, 2010 to December 15, 2010.

The ICIS 2010 Program Committee invites submissions across 20 tracks, including our Theme track. The theme of the conference, "Information Technology: Gateway to the Future," emphasizes research that addresses the central role that information technology plays in shaping the world in which we live and work. Emerging information technologies and the convergence of computers, communications and media have resulted in unprecedented opportunities and challenges for IS research. Social networking, cloud computing, the semantic web, and virtual reality are among a few of the technologies that affect individuals, organizations, and societies, defining new organizational forms and new ways of doing business. This conference seeks IS research that studies these phenomena, presents and evaluates innovative IT artifacts, or develops and justifies theories that explain or predict the impacts of such IT technologies, and thus has significant potential to impact in the real world.

Please note the following:

1. The conference website at http://icis2010.aisnet.org/ contains the track descriptions, deadlines, and submission guidelines.

2. The deadline for submissions is midnight (central time), May 3, 2010. This is a firm deadline and no extensions will be allowed.

The 2010 International Workshop on Multimedia Technologies on Multi-Core Embedded Platform (MMEP 2010) will be held in conjunction with The 5th International Conference on Embedded and Multimedia Computing (EMC-10), August 11-13, 2010, Cebu, Philippines.
This workshop is intended to provide a forum for presenting, exchanging and discussing the most recent advances in different aspects of integrating multi-core embedded platform with emerging multimedia technologies.

SYNOPSIS

Due to the evolution of video coding technology and the development of embedded systems, the scope of multimedia systems can be expanded to mobile devices by integrating with embedded technology. Thus, computation becomes a critical design especially in multimedia applications. In recent years, the multi-core architecture with lower frequency is proposed to achieve the same performance with single core with high frequency. With the increasing penetration rate and expansion of multimedia embedded system using the multi-core technologies, new challenges and applications are growing bigger and more complex, including multimedia system, computing, compression technologies and applications on embedded multi-core platforms and so on.

Entities in todays world have moved from data-poor environments to data rich environments. Businesses, government agencies, and non-profit entities all have the potential to enhance their performance and their effectiveness through better understanding and utilization of numerical, textual, and media information that either they themselves generate or to which they have access. But they face common problems linked to the sheer volume and seeming complexity of these data sources. We ask for papers of minimum four pages and maximum 8 pages in the
ACM format

paper will be reviewed by three members of the program committee.
The proceedings will be published as a volume of the ACM DL with an
ISBN 978-1-60558-961-9.

To date, the fully automatic generation of the code from models is still a dream and, if it works at all, restricted to specific application areas. One of the main obstacles is the lack of adequate models for system behaviour and model integration mechanisms.
Modelling a complex system generally involves representing a combination of different types of behaviour including internal system behaviour, interaction with the environment, and collaboration between systems. To cater for behavioural complexity we must be able to determine which techniques are applicable to a given situation and be able to use multiple techniques in combination. This requires suitable and simple compositional semantics so that the various models used to describe the behaviour of a complex system can be put together. .

The purpose of the workshop is to better understand the problem with behavioural models, what is needed to adequately model behaviour, and what is still lacking for modelling the behaviour in such a way that the code can automatically be generated from them. Based on that, the outcome of the workshop will be a clearer vision of how modelling notations for behaviour and the interfaces to structural models should look like.

Introduction
The use of collaborative decision and management support systems has evolved over the years through developments in distributed computational science in a manner, which provides applicable intelligence in decision-making. The rapid developments in networking and resource integration domains have resulted in the emergence and in some instances to the maturation of distributed and collaborative paradigms such as Web Services, P2P, Grid and Cloud computing, Data Mashups and Web 2.0. Recent implementations in these areas demonstrate the applicability of the aforementioned next generation technologies in a manner, which seems the panacea for solving very complex problems and grand challenges. A broad range of issues are currently being addressed; however, most of these developments are focused on developing the platforms and the communication and networking infrastructures for solving these very complex problems, which in most instances are well-known challenges. Individuals and groups are invited to propose workshops and tutorials. We invite a range of events varying in content, aim and structure. The general goal is to offer participants an opportunity to engage in professional exchange in an interactive and interpersonal setting. Workshops and tutorials are intended to bring together groups of researchers from around the world who have shared interests. They provide a good, extended opportunity for researchers to get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere and stimulate the development of ideas and interests, sometimes leading to collaboration, grants and publications. Workshops and tutorials can be on any major and timely topic in Intelligent Tutoring Systems. Possible topics include, but are not limited to: tools (e.g., tools for more effective, efficient, and enjoyable ITS interactions; analysis tools for researchers), practices (e.g., teacher best practices; the analysis of student practice), theories (e.g., learning, cognition, teaching, practice) and methods (e.g., research approaches, techniques, methodologies).

We invite both "classical workshops," during which early work is presented in an informal, mini conference style, as well as workshops that are highly interactive working meetings for a group of people, designed to take advantage of being co-located to work together collaboratively on a theme of shared interest. Tutorials on the other hand should provide an introduction and possibly in-depth treatment of an ITS topic under the guidance of an experienced researcher.

Online covariance-based sem workshop using r

In conjunction with faculty at Memorial University and Georgia State University, we are conducting an eight-hour live, synchronous, hands on, interactive, audio- and video-supported online academic workshop on covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM) using the open source R system for statistical computing on March 26-27 @ 12 Noon 4PM EST (GMT-5). The workshop combines how-to instruction on CB-SEM techniques at both the introductory and more advanced levels with numerous live, hands on exercises and associated data sets.

The presenter is Joerg Evermann, an associate professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. Johns Canada. Dr. Evermann has presented similar workshops and relevant papers at the ACIS, AMCIS and ICIS International conferences, as well as published in numerous academic journals.

The registration fee for faculty/practitioners is $250 USD and for students $175 USD (using the discount code student4 when registering). 1. Introduction
Initiatives like Linked Open Data have resulted in a rapid growth of the Web of data, and this growth is expected to continue. While impressive progress has been made in recent years in scalable storing, querying, and reasoning with languages like RDFS and OWL, existing reasoning techniques fail to perform when applied at Web-scale, due to the quantities of instance data, expressiveness of the ontologies, or the inherent inconsistency and incompleteness of data on the Web.

These problems of scale are increasingly compounded by the appearance of highly dynamic data streams. Data streams occur in modern applications such as traffic engineering, applications of RFID tags, telecom call recording, medical record management, financial applications, and clickstreams. On the Web, many sites distribute and present information in real-time streams of semi-structured text. In many of these application areas, the ability to perform complex reasoning tasks that combine streaming information (both data and text) with background knowledge would be of great benefit. Stream reasoning is a new multidisciplinary approach for semantically processing high-frequency high-volume streams of information in combination with rich background knowledge.

This workshop is a joint continuation of earlier successful workshop on scalable and dynamic reasoning for the Semantic Web, NeFoRS'07, NeFoRS'08, and SR2009.
